Chef Jeffery Barnes grew up in the Northshore area. His first job was as a dishwasher at Middendorfs when he was 16. After High school he attended Johnson & Wales University in Denver, CO. Upon receiving his degree in Science of Culinary Arts, he worked in several Hotels in Scottsdale AZ, Dallas TX, and Denver Co. Moving back home he mentored under two different prominent restaurateurs in the Northshore area. In 2009 he moved back to Dallas, TX where he spent the following 10 years working as a Regional Executive Chef and Food Service Director for Compass Group USA. Deciding to take time away from the corporate world, he moved back home and wanted to open a restaurant serving classic South Louisiana Fair. On January 28th 2020 he purchased K Gee's Restaurant. He has since been transforming the restaurant to his style and changed the name to Saltine's Louisiana Kitchen. He is very active in the American Culinary Federation and holds several certifications including Certified Executive Chef, Certified Culinary Administrator and Certification Evaluator.
